A Ladder of Revelation
We continue to reflect on this week’s Gospel, Luke 24: 35-48. We can discern within it a ladder of revelation of the Risen Christ. It starts with Jesus standing among them and saying ‘Peace be with you’. He then proceeds to calm their freight and dispell their doubts by showing them the wounds on His hands and feet. The third rung of the ladder is - inviting them to touch him. The fourth rung - He asks for something to eat and eats it in their presence. The fifth rung - He opens their minds to understand the scriptures.
Jesus is an excellent and patient teacher, guiding His disciples through progressive stages of revelation. Each step builds upon the last, leading them from fear and doubt to a deep understanding of His resurrection. As we reflect on this passage, we are invited to consider our own journey of faith. How has Jesus revealed himself to us?
Have we allowed him to calm our fears and dispel our doubts? Have we touched him, experienced his presence in our lives? Have we shared in the Eucharist, recognizing his presence in the breaking of bread? And have we allowed him to open our minds to the wisdom of Scripture?
As we meditate on this Gospel passage, it becomes evident that the encounter with the Risen Christ requires our active participation. While Jesus takes the lead, offering us peace, revealing himself, and opening our minds, we must also respond with openness and receptivity. We are called to welcome his presence into our lives, to reach out and touch him in faith, to partake in the sacraments with reverence and gratitude, and to engage with Scripture with a willing heart and an open mind.
It is through this mutual exchange of love and trust that our relationship with the Risen Christ deepens and grows. Let us, therefore, remain open to his advances, allowing him to transform our hearts and minds as we journey together in faith.
It is my hope and dream that this newsletter can lead you, my faithful readers, into a deeper encounter with the Risen Christ. Through reflections on scripture, insights from the teachings of the Church, and the sharing of our own faith journeys, may we together open ourselves more fully to the transformative power of Christ's resurrection.
Let us support one another in our quest for deeper understanding and greater intimacy with our Lord. As we journey together in faith, may we be ever mindful of the presence of the Risen Christ among us, guiding us, sustaining us, and leading us into the fullness of life that he promises.
