A Sacred Space Experience
Yesterday I had the good fortune to conduct a retreat at a historic beachfront church for a group of 8 men. It was a sacred space experience as we shared deeply and vulnerably on the challenges of being a man in the world today. Eight good men walking the spiritual salt path, accompanying each other, even if only for a day. As we shifted places from within the small, old church to a scenic gazebo on a jetty into the sea, we listened, consoled and urged each other to soldier on in Christ.
So often during the day we reflected on the similarity of our experience with that of the two disciples on the road to Emmaus. We knew that Jesus was walking with us even though we could not recognize him. As I looked at the small fishing boats bobbing by the beach I thought of Jesus on the shore of the Sea of Galilee. He was there with us, listening, asking questions, shedding light on biblical scripture. he was healing our brokenness.
A sacred space is an oasis, a respite, a stop to recharge batteries, a moment of grace to strengthen us for the path ahead. It is a moment when the clouds receed and we can see clearly. Each of us shared insights of our life journey emboldened by the sacred space. I came to understand that a sacred space is a stop along the path where you get a better understanding of your life purpose.
I came to realize that this newsletter is to support, encourage and empower leaders to lead their individual groups of travellers along the salt path of life. Each of us is called to be a leader. Yesterday, I was just one leading a group of eigth men for the day, at a spot on the shore of the Sea of Galilee. If each man was to go on and lead eight others, we have a group of 64 persons walking in Christ. This realization gave me additional motivation and a clearer path ahead for the newsletter.
It is my earnest hope that you readers will embrace this ministry of spiritual leadership in your own lives. Use and contribute to the contents of this newsletter to strengthen your spiritual leadership capacity and join with me in leading others along this salt path of life.
