We continue to reflect on this week’s Gospel, John 15: 1-8, in which we come across this wonderful statement ‘If you abide in me, and my words abide in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.’
When we abide in Christ, our hearts align with His, and our desires become aligned with His will. We surrender our heart to Him, and our requests become reflections of His purposes rather than self-serving wants.
This promise isn't about material gain or earthly success but about the transformation of our hearts to reflect the character and Kingdom of God. It is about the alignment of our will with His, so that what we ask for is ultimately for His glory and the advancement of His kingdom.
This is NOT to say that Our Lord is not concerned about our material welfare. By all means - No. He is aware of each person’s station in life and He does want you to succeed in life. John Chapters 14 & 15 speak to - your success is to the Father’s Glory. Your perspective however is different, your success aligns with the building of the Kingdom.
This alignment is a lifelong process of growth and discipleship, of allowing the Holy Spirit to work within us, shaping us into vessels fit for His purposes. As we abide in Christ and His words abide in us, our desires are refined, purified, and made holy.
Jesus is offering us a life of joy and deep fulfillment such as the world cannot give.
Let us reflect on this promise with humility and reverence, recognizing the incredible privilege and responsibility it entails. Let us seek to abide in Christ more fully, to allow His words to take root deep within us, shaping every aspect of our being. And in doing so, may our requests be aligned with His will, bringing joy to our hearts, glory to His name and advancing His kingdom on earth.
