Fighting Hidden Unclean Spirits

Just then a man in their synagogue who was possessed by an unclean spirit cried out, ²⁴ “What do you want with us, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are—the Holy One of God!”

²⁵ “Be quiet!” said Jesus sternly. “Come out of him!” ²⁶ The unclean spirit shook the man violently and came out of him with a shriek. Mk 1 23-26

It is revealing in this Gospel narrative that the unclean spirit allowed the man to participate in the synagogue. We have come to believe, from the movies, that unclean spirits are monstrous, frightening looking, visible to the eye. Usually, unclean spirits are nuanced, hidden, secretive, invisible, destroying from within. They can work on individuals like a cancer and should this person be in a position of authority can actually influence an organization to evil.

As we look at the seeming headlong rush to large scale war, in the world, I believe it is driven by hidden unclean spirits operating on all sides pushing us to some apocalyptic end. The unclean spirits work slowly, hidden from sight, putting people and things in place to orchestrate their diabolical plan.

The unclean spirit on perceiving Jesus cries out …. ‘Have you come to destroy us?’ Informing us that Jesus Christ has power over unclean spirits - ‘be quiet … Come out of him’. Jesus has the power to destroy the diabolical plans of unclean spirits if we only call out to him - as individuals and as the Church.

There are unclean spirits working slowly, hidden from sight, leading persons to depression, addictions and mental illness. By the time they appear they are deep rooted destroying from within. Through prayer and devotion to Jesus Christ they can be destroyed. However, they do not leave quietly, ‘The unclean spirit shook the man violently and came out of him with a shriek’. This is spiritual warfare.

In 1917 Our Mother Mary appeared to children at Fatima and gave them a formula for destoying the evil machinations causing WWI and the soon to follow WWII. It took many years and considerable prayers to fulfill The Virgin Mary’s plan and destroy the evil structures that led to the world wars. Today, through the same formula, that can be accessed online, we can start to fight the evil pushing to a WWIII.

Not only do we have to fight against hidden unclean spirits operating at a world level, we also have to fight the unclean spirits operating at a family level, through family prayer. We live in perilous times at family and world level and only an everyday, everyone spirituality can fight the spiritual warfare required. This is the purpose of this newsletter.
