The angel says to the women at the empty tomb ‘go, tell his disciples and Peter that (The Risen Christ) is going before you to Galilee.’ No sooner had they learnt that Jesus is risen, they are sent on a mission. This is a profound lesson for us - it is not sufficient to believe in the Resurrection, even to leave the empty tomb - we must go on mission.
As Christians we are called to ‘Go, Tell…’. Tell others that Jesus has risen, he is victorious over death, we are no longer in bondage in tombs, the large stone has been rolled away. The Resurrection communicated to the disciples that Jesus has triumphed over the religious leaders and the Romans. His way has been victorious. This is good news. And what do we do with good news? We go tell others.
The Easter Gospels mandate us to live and share the good news that the way of Jesus is victorious over the way of the world. Often we are persons who believe in the Resurrection, celebrate The Easter Tridium, but live a lifestyle of Lent. The Resurrection is a conquest over the way of the world. As the angels said to the women - ‘Do not be afraid’ (Jesus has conquered the world). He is ‘The Way, The Truth, and The Light’.
To ‘Go..Tell’ is a process of growing in the life in the Spirit. This means to deepen one’s relationship with God through the Holy Spirit, and to become increasingly conformed to the image of the Risen Christ.
This entails cultivating a deep intimacy with the Risen Christ, through prayer, worship, meditation on scripture and Christian Meditation. It involves seeking God‘s presence, and relying on the Holy Spirit to guide, empower and transform one’s life. As we grow in the life of the Spirit, we increasingly exhibit the fruits of the Spirit. We gain the confidence to ‘Go Tell’. We join a ministry, and begin to tell others of the Good News.
As we end this week’s reflection, we ask ourselves a few questions:
What is the stone that is blocking the entrance to my tomb?
What is the tomb that is holding me captive?
Who are the angels in my life who have already rolled away the stone?
Who are the angels who are telling me ‘He is not here - He is Risen’?
What do I have to do to embrace the victory of the Resurrection and change my way of life?
How can I spread the ‘Good News’?
NOTICE - I will be on retreat from today. My next post will be on Monday. Wishing you a joyful weekend. Please pray for me to have a successful retreat.
