It is the Spirit who gives Life
Early Monday morning I awoke with an excrutiating headache. I went to the kitchen and checked my blood pressure which was a bit high. Also my temperature was slightly above normal. Sandee is away on missionary activity so some of you may say that it was just loneliness (tabanca - for my Trini readers). But when the symptoms did not change by early afternoon, I recognized that it may be some flu and took to bed.

It is there I reflected on these words of Jesus from this week’s Gospel John 6: 60-69 ‘It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is no help at all.’ I thought of the frailty of my ‘flesh’ and how easily something can go wrong, alone here as an empty nester. I was totally dependant on the Spirit.
I decided to take Jesus at His words in John 14: 20 ‘On that day you will realize that I am in my Father and you are in me and I in you.’ And I started to pray to Jesus through His Spirit, who resides in me, asking Him to heal my ‘flesh’. I fell off to sleep praying.
Later that evening, at about 6pm, I awoke feeling a lot better. My prayers were answered. While it may seem to some a small confirmation, I took it as message to continue my reading and reflecting on the week’s Gospel.
Yesterday we reflected on the need to wrestle with the words of sacred scripture, until they gradually begin to form and reveal themselves in our lives. My Readers, Jesus loves you and wants to come and have an intimate relationship with you, if you would only let Him.
I encourage you to take up Jesus on His promise and invite Him into your life, by reflecting on sacred scripture. Open and lift up your hearts by reciting - Jesus, I trust in you, come walk with me, in Spirit, as my daily companion. Help me to grow to understand sacred scripture and materialize Your Love in my life. And start to live a Life in the Spirit, through sacred scripture.
