Joyful Laetare Sunday
Good Sunday friends and welcome to Laetare Sunday, it takes its name from the Latin word "laetare," which means "rejoice" or "be glad." Laetare Sunday is marked by readings and prayers that encourage believers to find hope and encouragement amidst the rigors of Lent. It serves as a reminder that Easter, with its celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Christ, is drawing nearer, bringing with it the promise of redemption and new life.
The Church offers us two alternate Gospel readings - John 3: 14-25 (Jesus is the light of the world) and John 9: 1-41 (The man born blind receives sight). We can interpret the two Gospel narratives as Jesus bringing light into the world so that the blind can see. This week I choose to reflect on the story of the man born blind drawing from Jesus as the light of the world.
Let us have a listen to the Gospel by clicking on the link below.
St John Gospel Chapt 9 Versus 1-41
We will journey with the blind man as he increasingly recognizes Jesus’ identity. It is also the story of Jesus’ work of healing. There is also an allusion to the other Gospel narrative of Jesus is the light of the world. The blind man begins to see through the light of Jesus.
We look forward to this week in anticipation of the coming of Easter. We can all agree that the world needs the light of Jesus in these days of war and rumors of war. We also need the light of Jesus in each of our lives to expel those areas of darkness that we and our families harbour.
Thank you for walking with me as we journey with the Sunday Gospels. Please share the newsletter to those who you believe need the light of Jesus to come into their lives.
Special thanks to those who contribute financially to this newsletter. Your generosity is a blessing to all of us. I would not be able to continue this work of evangelization without your help. May you be blessed.
Dear Papa God please heal the blindness of each of us and our family members.
