Sacred Space at Home
In John 2: 13-25 Jesus cleanses the temple with a cord chasing all the commerce of money changers, cattle and pigeon sellers. He restores the temple to a sacred space. Jesus’ action teaches us the importance of sacred spaces. It is the same at home, there is the space for cooking and sleeping and there must be a sacred space for prayer. Even if it just a humble prayer chair, it is a sacred space.
I remember my great grandmother having a little table as an altar at the side of her bed along with a chair to sit in before the altar. If we are seeking a deeper connection with God in our daily life, a sacred space for prayer in the comfort of our own home is ideal! Such a space when used for prayer can give profound joy and transformative benefits.
Transform a corner of your home into a sanctuary of peace and tranquility. Whether it's a cozy nook by a window or a serene alcove in your bedroom, carve out a space that invites stillness and contemplation. Your sacred prayer space serves as a tangible reminder to pause, breathe, and be present to the sacredness of each moment. In the midst of life's busyness, it offers a gentle invitation to turn inward and reconnect with your soul.
Fill your sacred space with sacred objects that inspire and uplift your spirit—such as candles, incense, rosaries, religious art, bible, and meaningful symbols such as statues. Let each item serve as a catalyst for prayer, meditation, and reflection.
As you spend time in your sacred prayer space, open your heart to the presence of God. Whether through formal prayers, spontaneous conversations, or silent listening, allow yourself to communicate with Jesus in whatever way feels most authentic to you.
Over time, your sacred prayer space becomes a sacred container for your spiritual journey—a place where you can seek solace, find clarity, and experience moments of grace. It becomes a sacred anchor amidst life's ebb and flow, offering solace in times of challenge and inspiration in times of joy.
