Taking Our Sacred Space into the World
Later that night the disgruntled pigeon seller struggled with the words of Jesus, was he implying that he is the true sanctuary, the true temple? If so he is not controlled by space and time. He thought - ‘if so, then I can take with me the feast of the Passover’. ‘I can take with me the spirit of the temple, wherever I set up to sell my pigeons!’
Jesus is telling us that we can take our sacred space with us into the world.
Taking our sacred space at home with us when we go out into the world is about carrying the essence of that space within our heart and spirit, allowing it to guide and sustain us no matter where we are. Here are some ways we can do so:
Take small sacred objects or symbols with us wherever we go. It could be a pocket-sized prayer book, a rosary, an app on the mobile phone, or a meaningful pendant. These items serve as tangible reminders of our sacred space at home and can provide comfort and inspiration throughout our day.
Cultivate a sense of prayerfulness and presence in our daily activities. Whether we're walking, commuting, or working, take moments to pause, breathe, and connect with the sacredness of the present moment. This mindful awareness allows us to carry the serenity and stillness of our sacred space with us wherever we go. Offer silent prayers or intentions, seeking guidance, strength, and grace from Jesus Christ.
Visualize our sacred space at home, imagining its sights, sounds, and sensations. Whenever we need a moment of respite or renewal, retreat to these inner sanctuaries, drawing upon the memories and energies of our sacred space to nourish and restore us.
Seek opportunities to share sacred moments with others, even in the midst of daily interactions and activities. Offer words of kindness, compassion, and encouragement to those we encounter, infusing our interactions with the spirit of our sacred space at home. In doing so, we extend the blessings of our sacred space into the world, creating moments of connection and grace wherever we go.
By integrating these practices into our daily life, we carry the essence of our sacred prayer space with us, allowing it to infuse every aspect of our being and illuminate our journey with Jesus Christ.
